ANDA Intros EtherSLAM: The DSLAM for Business Broadband

ANDA Networks announced today the new EtherSLAM "access DSLAM" for Ethernet, the newest addition to the award-winning ANDA EtherTone™ product family.  The EtherSLAM (Ethernet Service Line Access Mux or E-SLAM for short) enables carriers to cost effectively address the "sweetspot" for their enterprise customer's 10-50Mbps E-Line and E-LAN Ethernet service.  This successor to traditional private line and frame relay tariffed services, could not previously be cost effectively deployed over fiber.  ANDA's new EtherSLAM applies the concept of a residential DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Mux) to the business broadband marketplace by enabling carriers a cost-effective, high-density solution to offer Ethernet services ubiquitously over existing copper, fiber or wireless access infrastructure.

EtherSLAM enables carriers' maximum service coverage by providing cost- effective aggregation of Ethernet over existing bonded T1/E1/DS3/E3 copper access connections, widely available on a worldwide basis.  According to Business Communications Review, Vertical Systems, and Western European Telecom Statistics, only 11% of all North American business buildings are directly connected by fiber and in the EU countries, only 5% are actually fiber connected.  The new ANDA EtherSLAM is a cost-effective way for carriers to deploy 1-10M Ethernet or 10-100M service tariffs not only over dark fiber or fiber based SONET/SDH but also via widely deployed bonded copper circuit infrastructure.  The new EtherSLAM is also complementary with ANDA's currently deployed 6200+ systems of EtherTone™ products by providing low-speed, high- density Ethernet service aggregation for carrier's sub-100M Ethernet services via a simple daughter card connection to any existing EtherEdge 4000 chassis.

"ANDA's new E-SLAM product addresses one of the key problems that carriers are facing as they roll out their Ethernet service offerings similar to what happened with DSL deployments" says Stan Hubbard, Senior Analyst, Heavy Reading."  According to our survey of carriers, reach and availability is the key barrier as Ethernet services have been primarily limited to connections over fiber.  The E-SLAM product can now effectively scale to meet business Ethernet customer demand locally, regionally or worldwide over copper or fiber based facilities from one ANDA access platform".

The EtherSLAM features rich L2 and L3 aware software with VLAN stacking and policing and QoS for converged packet access.  Additionally, ANDA's new E- SLAM product efficiently fills multiple GigE uplinks with VLAN or PBT tunnels as an expansion to existing EtherEdge 4000 systems.  EtherSLAM offers "pay-as-you-grow" functionality for aggregating Ethernet nxT1/E1 or nxDS3/E3 Ethernet demarcation devices.

To accommodate the worldwide market, the new EtherSLAM will be available in two flavors, including the EtherSLAM 6xCH DS3 for North America and 2xCH STM1 version for European, Asia Pacific and Latin American regions.  Both new products will be certified and supported by ANDA's new service partner Lucent Worldwide Services across their expansive network of worldwide support and integration services.

The EtherSLAM 6xCH DS3 cards can aggregate up to 504 T1 Ethernet subscribers using ANDA's EtherReach 2100 series nxT1 demarcation devices.  Additionally, EtherSLAM 2xCH STM1 version, supports up to 378 E1 Ethernet subscribers using ANDA's EtherReach 2100e series nxE1 demarcation devices.  ANDA's 2xCH STM1 E-SLAM's can also support up to six E3 EtherReach 2200e series NTE and up to 2xSTM1 of Virtual Concatenated VC12's (Nx2Mb) and VC3's (Nx34Mb or 45Mb) from SDH user NTE's such as typical micro MSPP's or switch/routers.  The 2xCH STM1 E-SLAM is an industry first "three-in-one aggregation" product to efficiently fill up GigE uplinks into carrier's core routers or MPLS based network devices.

"ANDA's EtherSLAM was developed at the request of our large Tier one North American wireline and wireless carriers to respond to their needs for the industry's lowest price per port for 10-50M E-Line and E-LAN services," said Charles Kenmore, President and CEO of ANDA Networks and Board Member of TIA the parent of Globalcomm.

ANDA EtherTone™ solutions provide cost-effective Ethernet access, aggregation and transport for consolidating Managed Ethernet Private lines such as E-Line and E-LAN, and now wireless backhaul applications, such as WiMAX, WiFi or cellular extensions for business customers requiring a simple Ethernet interface at the customer premise with connection into the Packet Switched Network.

ANDA's new EtherSLAM, the latest addition to the EtherTone™ Access product family, will be available starting in Q3 2006. ANDA will highlight its EtherSLAM and overall EtherTone™ solutions at GLOBALCOMM in Chicago on June 5-8, 2006 at Booth #42037.
